Tendinitis is inflammation, irritation, injury or microscopic tear of tendons associated with pain, tenderness, swelling, and movement restriction.

Tendons are inflamed when injured by trauma, overuse, work-load, infections and rarely in some disease conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, gout, diabetes, etc. Rarely do some drugs like atorvastatin and fluoroquinolone cause tendinitis.

Usually, the tendinitis pain is relieved by taking rest and NSAID, and within few days, tendinitis will be cured. Physiotherapy or surgery sometimes need to resolve tendinitis.

Besides medical management, there are few traditional and natural remedies to cure tendinitis naturally. To cure tendinitis naturally, the following can be done-



Ice-pack helps to reduce inflammation, relieve pain and decrease swelling of tendinitis when applying over the affected tendon and joints.

Daily 3 times for 5-10 min topical application of ice-packs is efficient to relieve pain.





Epsom Salt Bath:

Mix one cup of Epsom salt with water in your bathtub. Take a 15 to 20 minutes bath daily. Magnesium sulfate or Epsom salt helps to reduce inflammation and swelling of tendons. (

Apple Cider Vinegar:

Mix ½ cup of apple cider vinegar with ½ cup of water. Soak a clean washcloth in this apple cider vinegar; after wringing, place the cloth over the affected tendon for 20 to 30 minutes. Try it three times a day.

Drinking a glass of water mixed with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar daily is also helpful to treat tendinitis. Apple cider vinegar has strong anti-inflammatory properties. It can reduce pain, swelling and inflammation.(


Bone broth

Have a bowl of bone broth daily. It contains nutrients like glucosamine and chondroitin that help in speeding the healing of your tendons. ( 


Cayenne Pepper Powder:

Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, which has analgesic effects and reduces inflammation and pain.

Massage the mixture of one teaspoon of cayenne pepper powder and a few teaspoons of warmed olive oil over the affected tendon for 30 minutes.

You can do it 2 to 3 times per day.




Vitamin C rich foods:

Eat Vitamin C rich vegetables and fruits. Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to synthesize collagen. So, rapid healing of tendinitis may occur. (





Ginger contains gingerol, which is a potent anti-inflammatory agent. (  So adding ginger in an increased amount to your diet will help you to cure tendinitis and tendinitis associated pain and complications.



Drink a glass of hot milk mixed with a teaspoon of turmeric daily. It contains an active component named Curcumin. Curcumin has strong anti-inflammatory properties. It also reduces pain and increases the healing of tendinitis. (  and )



It is a form of Chinese traditional medicine. It is believed that acupuncture may release natural pain-relieving opioids. It also inhibits the sympathetic nervous system and releases some brain neurotransmitters. All of these factors may help to reduce tendinitis pain.

( But acupuncture has few side effects. The patients on blood-thinning medication should not try this procedure.

Transverse friction massage:

It is a deep massage procedure that is used for tendinitis. The massage strokes are deep and forceful and applied to the affected tendon, perpendicular to the direction of the muscle and tendon. It may reduce the pain by improving blood supply to the tendon and surrounding structures. It may reduce the scar formation and adhesion of the injured tendon to surrounding tissue.
